Stunning Pennington Beach on the south coast - sheltered on a northerly wind day. (Plan your trips around the weather if touring the whole island.) On northerly days the southern beaches (Vivonne, Pennington, Seal Bay / Bales beach and Hanson) are great, with perfect scenic waves. The majority of wind comes from the south, however, when Stokes Bay, Snellings Beach, Western River Cove, Snugs Cove and Emu Bay are best.
The Ferry leaves Cape Jervis, which is 1.5 hours drive south of Adelaide (through McLaren Vale wine country) and takes you and your car to Penneshaw... (45 minute world-class Ferry Ride), from where you buy groceries and head to Stokes Bay (1.5 hour drive)
